Historical reference
Nefteyugansk owes its birth to the richest oil reserves of the unique Ust-Balykskoye field, discovered in 1961 - the first-born among the deposits of the Middle Ob River. Drilled wells R-62, R-63 served as the basis for a new large oil production base. The construction of the city began with the landing of geological prospectors on the coast of the river Yuganskaya Ob.
The status of the city was assigned to the workers' settlement of oil prospectors on October 16, 1967, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR "On the transformation of the working village of Nefteyugansk in the Surgut District of the Khanty-Mansiysk National District of the Tyumen Region into a city of district subordination".
"City born of oil"
The birth of the city of Nefteyugansk is connected with the discovery of a unique Ust-Balyksky oil field - one of the largest in the Tyumen region. The city of Nefteyugansk itself is located on the territory of the developed Ust-Balyksk oil field, the richest reserve of which the city owes its birth.
In the spring of 1961, the first "landing" of geologists and builders landed on the high bank of the Yugan Ob River - the only place suitable for locating the expedition's base, and in October a 300 ton oil flow was received at the P-62 well.
The oil fountain opened a new deposit and became fatal for the future city. But it was required to prove the prospects of oil deposits. On December 18, 1962, the P-63 well drilled with oil with a daily rate of 800 tons. The well oil content confirmed the reserves of the Ust-Balykskoye field, initially estimated at 100 million tons; more than 200 million tons have been produced.
In 1964 Ust-Balykskaya, Megionskaya and Shaimskaya oil was sent by oil-loading barges to the Omsk oil refinery, which marked the beginning of the industrial value of Siberian oil - Western Siberia began working on its own raw materials.
October 16, 1967 Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR working settlement Nefteyugansk, Surgut district of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area received the status of the city. In 2017 Nefteyugansk celebrates its 50th anniversary. People settled in the taiga and swamps, built houses and oil rigs and believed in the future of the city, which was not yet on the map of our country.
Nefteyugansk grew very rapidly: by the end of 1962 there were 1500 people living in the village; January 1, 1968 the population of Nefteyugansk reaches 21 thousand people.
Today Nefteyugansk is a modern industrial city of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra, the third largest in the region.
Since 1969, the architects of the city were architects from St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), so Nefteyugansk has a number of similarities with the "northern capital": externally Nefteyugansk also "deployed" to the river, broken into sectors by straight streets. Nefteyugansk is built on marshes and islands, both cities are almost on one 60th parallel, so Nefteyugansk also has white nights in summer.
Nefteyugansk is the only city in the Middle Ob area located on the island: from the north the island is washed by the waters of the Ob, and from the south by the channels "Yuganskaya Ob".
Today the city has more than 125 thousand inhabitants. The average age of the inhabitants of the young city is 33 years. Ethnic composition of Nefteyugansk is represented by more than 100 nationalities.
Nefteyugansk is a major transportation hub connecting the federal highway Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets districts with central Russia.
Transport connection
Yugorskiy cable-stayed bridge across the Ob River
The bridge over the Ob River is 45 km away. from Nefteyugansk towards Surgut. At the time of construction - September 2000 - was the bridge with the longest cable-stay in the world, a real miracle of engineering and technical thought. The length of the cable span is 408 m., In the world practice at that time the maximum span was 325 m., In Russia - 160 m. The span is supported by one pylon height of almost 150 m.
The bridge capacity is 9100 cars a day, the service life without major repairs is 100 years.
The bridge is the only one all along the Ob River from Tomsk ("Shegarsky Bridge") to the Arctic Ocean and entered the seven wonders of the Tyumen Region.
The bridge over the channel "Yuganskaya Ob"
In the 70-80s of the last century, before the construction of the motor bridge across the Yugansk Ob, communication between the settlements of the south and the north of the Tyumen region was carried out by ferries, in the winter - by the ice crossing. In emergency cases, helicopters were used.
The road bridge across the channel Yuganskaya Ob was opened on November 3, 1984. The length of the bridge is 870.3 m, its carrying capacity is 1500 cars per day.
By the beginning of the XXI century traffic intensity increased many times and the capacity of the bridge with difficulty provided the passage of vehicles.
On September 20, 2008, the grand opening of the road-bridge reconstructed complex through the Yuganskaya Ob was held, with two bridge crossings with two-lane traffic in each direction.
The bridge is designed for trouble-free operation for 50 years. It has a huge socio-economic and strategic importance - as part of the federal highway, provides year-round communication of the northerners with other regions of Russia.
